2015-2017 President
Isabell Farrell began her service on the Board in 2013. Her
job was to produce the quarterly newsletter. She changed the
name from “All Rag”, extended its pages, gave it a new format
and renamed it “The Palette Dispatch.”
In 2014 Isabell was elected to the position of the Presidency
of WSNC. She defined very specific goals, the first being some
internal housekeeping and updating. The WSNC board worked hard
reviewing our mission statement, the operations, procedures,
and documents. The Board revised the WSNC bylaws. They created
new board positions and deleted others; edited job descriptions
modifying and clarifying directors’ roles, striving to give them
more autonomy.
Isabell also focused on creating the WSNC “brand” making a
more easily recognizable entity in the state. Thus, she mandated
use of the WSNC logo, designed by board member, Richard Staat of
Oak Island, on anything and everything having to do with WSNC --
all documents, legal contracts, printed material, labels,
stationary, signage, etc. Under Isabell they also revisited
and updated all the content of WSNC paperwork, redesigning
legal documents and contracts. Isabell also established a WSNC
Facebook page to facilitate communication among the membership
with the availability of group email and obtained a WSNC
presence on Instagram. And WSNC began the sale of WSNC
branded accessories.
Isabell invited Eng Pua of Carrboro into our ranks. His skillset
has been proven invaluable and that is an understatement. He has
digitized all of our processes and made our web site very
accessible.
As an aid to guide everyone in the endeavor of describing
personnel required, detailed job descriptions for various
positions for the Annual Juried Exhibition, Isabel compiled
an extended version of the original 12-page Exhibition
Handbook, an internal guidebook for planning the Annual
Exhibition. She eliminated the Membership Directory and
replaced it with the annual WSNC Exhibition Catalogue, which
includes all images comprising the annual exhibition and
profiles of award winners, as well as membership lists.
Isabel also initiated the Signature pins to honor members’
continued excellence in production of artwork. These pins
were designed by our board member, John Anderson of
Hendersonville. She overhauled the Traveling Exhibition giving it
a new format and process. She implemented the new Permanent
Collection Purchase Award in 2014 to ensure annual additions
of stellar new artwork from our members and steadily expand
our permanent collection.
